SOUND PROPAGATION IN RANDOM MEDIA. Backscattering correction to the multiple forward scattering theory

چکیده
The Parabolic Equation Method ( P E M ) is the commonly used method to deal with wave propagation in random media. This method basically requires the small ratio of wave length to correlation length (small angle scattering). Recently, de Wolf/2/ and Rino/3/ extended the PEM by including the backscattered wave, retaining the small angle scattering. In his dissertation, GroBe/4/ generalized the PEhQ to the case of forward wide angle scattering. In this paper, a further generalization leads to a solution for the first moment of the scalar Helmholtz equation without any restriction concerning the scattering angles.

Multiple scattering effects on the radar cross section (RCS) of objects in a random medium including backscattering enhancement and shower curtain effects
This paper presents a theory of the radar cross section (RCS) of objects in multiple scattering random media. The general formulation includes the fourthorder moments including the correlation between the forward and the backward waves. The fourth moments are reduced to the second-order moments by using the circular complex Gaussian assumption. The stochastic Green’s functions are expressed in ...
متن کاملRandom backscattering in the parabolic scaling
In this paper we revisit the parabolic approximation for wave propagation in random media by taking into account backscattering. We obtain a system of transport equations for the moments of the components of reflection and transmission operators. In the regime in which forward scattering is strong and backward scattering is weak, we obtain closed form expressions for physically relevant quantit...
متن کاملDetermination of sediments diameter using acoustic waves
The use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientists recently. Since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they can be used in many scientific fields. The main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanisms of sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, p...
متن کاملImaging and Coherence in Rough Surface and Object Scattering
This paper is concerned with two problems. First, when the object is near a rough surface such as an ocean or terrain, and the transmitter and the receiver are also located near the surface, how can we image or detect the object which may be obscured by multiple scattering due to rough surface scattering. Second, even though multiple scattering generally increases the incoherent field, there ar...
متن کاملA two-way paraxial system for simulation of wave backscattering by a random medium
This paper presents a probabilistic analysis of an iterative two-way paraxial scheme for the simulation of wave propagation in random media. This scheme has the computational cost of the standard one-way paraxial wave equation but has the accuracy of the full wave equation in a regime beyond the classical paraxial regime. More precisely, it accurately predicts the statistics of the reflected wa...
